This fight was very much what most people expected. If either one of these guys landed a big shot, then the other was in trouble. Kimbo got there first.

That being said, there were some aspects of this fight that will haunt both men.

  1. Tank is too old for this (some will say).
  2. Kimbo punched Tank in the back of the head 3 times. I know he is new to MMA but you have to know when not to punch.
  3. Tank is really not the face of MMA or brawlers in the MMA game today. He hasn’t been in the game for a long time.

Here are my thoughts on Kimbo.

If he keeps training not only MMA but trains the mindset of MMA (watching for takedowns, understanding rules, keep the emotional part of fighting out)  then we have a guy to watch. This guys knockout power is awesome. His boxing is nice and tight. His conditioning is exactly where it needs to be.

Give Kimbo a good sprawl, some basic jiu-jitsu and jiu-jitsu defense and some good kicks and we have a serious contender.  Right now, if you throw Kimbo in with a good jiu-jitsu practitioner, he’s going to have big problems.

He’s training with Bas, which is good. Get another top notch jiu-jitsu trainer in there with him and I think he could convert his critics.
